Why Local Strawberry Patches are AWESOME. {+ Super Easy Fruit Dip Recipe!}

When Kevin and I got married, we moved into his mom’s basement apartment. This was such a blessing. One of the many perks  of living there – that I didn’t truly realize at the time – was being in WALKING DISTANCE from the local strawberry patch.

Y’all. I love strawberries. That still didn’t help me truly grasp how incredible a strawberry patch is. Why? Because I *hate* bugs.

– – W H A T does that have to do with strawberry patches? – –

To me, I saw this green field dotted with red delicious snacks to be INFESTED with spiders, mosquitos, and other things that are sure to bite me. And perhaps eat me.  Buying a box of strawberries from the grocery store seemed much safer.

One day in 2013, when I was very pregnant, my mom drove all the way to Loganville, GA to meet me at the strawberry patch. I was excited about strawberries… but very hesitant about sticking my hands all over the plants that were sure to have scary bugs just waiting to eat me. I decided to look at it as a way to get some good exercise for my sweet girl. So, I put on my walking shoes and power walked up to the strawberry patch.

It was AWESOME.

Not the walk, it actually rained on the walk. But the STRAWBERRIES.

OH MY YUM.

strawberry

A year later, I could hardly WAIT to go back to the strawberry patch. After this year, I came up with a few reasons why you need to visit your local strawberry patch.

The strawberries are SO MUCH BETTER than the store bought kind. They are so juicy, sweet, and perfect.

The strawberries are cheaper when you pick them yourself. I don’t know about all strawberry patches, but, I know that it’s about $10 to pick a whole GALLON of strawberries. Some of you may break it down and try to figure out if it really is cheaper going to the strawberry patch. Think of it this way: when you go to the grocery store, you’re looking at each box HOPING that you will find one that most of the strawberries are not rotten. When you go to the strawberry patch, that’s not even an issue because you CHOOSE the strawberries that you want.

The strawberries are fresher from the strawberry patch. Like I said, YOU CHOOSE your strawberries. You know that they JUST came off of the plant and that they haven’t been sitting in a grocery store for a week.

It is a FUN place for the whole family — especially the little ones! When I went to the patch with my mom while I was pregnant, I thought — OH this will be so much fun to bring my children to one day! Well, we brought Brooklynn this year and she LOVED it! Not to mention – she got her first tastes of strawberries, too!

Fruit Dip

This fruit dip is amazing.

Not only is it amazing, it’s so easy.

Like, really really easy.

You can’t mess it up.

It’s perfect to go along with your fruits that you pick from a local farm or those fruits that you buy at the store. It is the PERFECT addition to your get togethers and is very commonly seen at baby showers and wedding showers.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz package of cream cheese {softened}
  • 1 container of Marshmallow Fluff

Directions:

  • Once cream cheese is softened, combine marshmallow fluff and cream cheese into a bowl and stir until completely mixed together.
  • Enjoy!

Note: From personal experience, I do not recommend trying to make this dip with your Ninja blender. The Ninja blenders are AWESOME and I don’t know how I would survive the kitchen without mine… but… the sticky marshmallow fluff does not like the blades. :)

This recipe did not originate with me.
