Yearly Bible Reading – Week One {Free Printable Download}

The first week of this study has been going great for me! Those of you who are also participating… how is it going for you? If you’re late to the yearly bible reading — no worries! You can go HERE to download January’s list.

Here are a few things that I read about this past week:

  1. The Creation Story
  2. Adam & Eve
  3. Cain & Abel
  4. Noah & The Flood
  5. Tower of Babel
  6. Beginning of Job

A few years ago, I wrote this post about God’s Promise to Us. Years after my initial thoughts on the subject, I am still overwhelmingly amazed at God’s grace, mercy, provision, and presence in our lives! God created the rainbow specifically to remind us that He is always thinking about us and that he will not destroy all mankind through a flood again.

Digging Deeper in the book of Job:

It’s funny, the first time that I began reading through the Bible I was sure that I would be SO KNOWLEDGABLE in all things Bible by the end of the year. And don’t get me wrong, I learned a TON that first year {and every year after that}. But – as I have completed this Bible study multiple times – there is still so much about the Bible I don’t know.

Sometimes there are verses in the Old Testament {and the New} that I run across that completely stops me in my tracks. Whether it is something that speaks to me deep to the core, or, whether I have an “ah ha” moment. This is one of them:

“If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together. The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment. Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength.” Job 9:33-35

At this point in Job, he is suffering. He wants answers as to WHY he is suffering. He is desperate for a direct line of communication to God. In his anguish, he cries out for a mediator between him and God. Someone who will bridge the gap.

I had an “ah ha” moment with this verse. I thoroughly believe that nearly the entire Old Testament points STRAIGHT to Jesus. Many of you may disagree. However, this is my personal beliefs. That being said — Check out this verse from 1 Timothy:

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” 1 Timothy 2:5

Jesus came to this earth and died on the cross so that He could BECOME that mediator that Job had been desperate for. Because of Jesus – we can come freely before the throne of God without fear.

“But consider the joy of those corrected by God! Do not despise the discipline of the Almighty when you sin. For though he wounds, he also bandages. He strikes, but his hands also heal.” Job 5:17,18
