Family Movie Night with Disney Planes

I am so very excited because one of my favorite movies of the entire year comes out Blu-Ray Combo Pack and Digital HD tomorrow!

Disney Planes is about Dusty- a crop-duster plane voiced by Dane Cook.  He spends most of his days flying low, but his eyes are always turned up toward the clouds. Sadly, Dusty’s modest engine and intense fear of heights make a career in racing a long shot at best. Things begin to look up for Dusty, however, when a veteran aviator helps him qualify for a race against the reigning circuit champ. Now if Dusty can just learn to let go of his fears, his checkered-flag dreams may finally come true.

We were able to get our hands on the movie a little early and you know what that means– FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT!

We previewed this movie in theaters when it came out earlier this year, and each and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed it.  We were thrilled to watch it again.

Our family movie night began as they all do– by baking up a sweet treat to enjoy while we watch the movie.  I often let my daughter decide what we’re going to make, but this time I had a recipe all planned out that coordinates perfectly with the movie.

Three Musketeers Cupcakes.

As we baked, I briefly told Raileigh the story of the Three Musketeers– three mean who valued friendship at a high level and that lived by the motto “All for one and One for All”.  Often times, to truly be there for one another, they had to show a lot of courage— it isn’t easy to stand up for what’s right and to face things you’re scared of.

These themes are both incredibly prevalent in Disney Planes.  The main character, Dusty, courageously rises above to face his fears and live his dreams.  However, he never lets competition get the best of him, always being a good friend even to those who were not so good to him.

So… want to make some Three Musketeers Cupcakes for your family movie night?

Three Musketeers Cupcakes

Makes 24 Cupcakes

  • Box of Chocolate Cake Mix {or your favorite chocolate cupcake recipe} and all additional ingredients it requires
  • 70 MINI Three Musketeers, unwrapped {24 for INSIDE the cupcakes, 40 for the icing, and 6 to chop up for the top of the cupcakes}
  • 7 oz. Jar Marshmallow Fluff
  • 1 stick of butter at room temperature
  • 4 cups of Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tbsp. Milk

Start by preheating the oven as directed on the box.  Then, prepare the cake mix as directed.  Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners and fill each cavity to just under 2/3 of the way full.  Place the cupcakes in the oven, baking for 5 minutes.  Remove from the oven and carefully press a mini Three Musketeers bar into the center of each cupcake.  Return to the oven to finish baking.

Repeat with the remaining cupcake batter.

When the cupcakes have cooled, we’ll begin making the icing.  Start by creaming the marshmallow fluff and the butter together.  Set aside.  Add 40 mini Three Musketeers to a sauce pan and heat over low heat.  Note– this candy doesn’t melt like chocolate does.  When it “melts”, it forms a fluffy, sticky mixture because of the filling in the candy bar.  When that happens, remove from the heat and cream together with the marshmallow fluff and butter mixture.  Slowly add in the powdered sugar and milk, creaming together until the frosting forms.

I let the frosting sit for about five minutes before putting it on the cupcakes.

And, of course, I made a download so that you can have them, too!

Each sheet contains six cupcake toppers– five of our favorite characters and the Disney Planes logo.  You can use one circle per cupcake topper OR you can make them double-sided– my favorite!  Simply stick a toothpick and a little double-sided tape in between two of the toppers and you’ll get Disney Planes goodness no matter what direction you look at the cupcake from!

Now that your cupcakes are really complete, settle in for an amazing family movie night.

Hello, I know that I’m a few years late but I would appreciate it a lot if you could make your free printable cupcake toppers available again. I tried many times but it seems like it’s not available any more.
Thanks again from the bottom of my heart
