In case you haven’t heard of the Mars Bites, let me fill you in on why they are so wonderful:

  • They are UNWRAPPED.  Hooray for no more tiny, fiddly wrappers to mess with!
  • They are POPPABLE.  I mean– unwrapped bite-size candy bars at my disposal?  Yes, please.
  • The larger bag seals shut… as if you’ll have any left, though…
  • They come in Milky Way and Snickers.  Need I say more?

So, if you can manage not to devour the entire bag upon purchase {it’s quite the challenge, I tell you}, these little bites also happen to be perfect for baking.  Since you don’t have to sit an unwrap every. single. piece. of. candy, you can whip up tasty candy-infused desserts in no time.

In celebration of the new Mars Bites, I wanted to share a tasty recipe with all of you.

Milky Way Puppy Chow.

Milky Way candy bars are at the top of my favorite list and puppy chow is a new obsession.  So, I decided to combine the two and make this mouth-watering dessert that is hard to put down.  Seriously… I had to tell myself– Walk away from the puppy chow.

Milky Way Puppy Chow

  • 4 cups of Rice Chex Cereal
  • 25 Milky Way Bites
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 + 1/8 cup powdered sugar

Start by pouring your Rice Chex into a large mixing bowl.  Set this aside for now.

In a saucepan, melt the Milky Way Bites and butter over LOW heat.  Chocolate burns easily and it stinks when you do burn it, so keep an eye on it, stirring constantly.

Once the chocolate and butter are nice and melted, pour it over your Rice Chex.  Use a rubber spatula {or something similar– we don’t want to break the cereal} to get the cereal evenly coated.

Now, sprinkle your powdered sugar over the cereal and fold it in until the cereal is evenly coated.  You MAY need to add a bit more powdered sugar.  Use your best judgement here.  FYI– I totally overdid it on the powdered sugar.  So… yours probably won’t look quite as white as mine does.

The end result is a completely addictive batch of Milky Way Puppy Chow.
