Back in August, I bought this fabulous pattern bundle called the Alphabet Collection. Four pattern designers came together to create a collection that was meant to be versatile for either boys or girls. It included a jacket, pants, vest, and top– the complete outfit.
Recently, I pulled out that top pattern– the Recess Raglan from See Kate Sew. This is my first pattern from See Kate Sew and I am completely smitten.
The pattern comes with multiple options, including several different sleeves and cuffs. I opted for the elbow sleeves with an added cuff.
The main body of the shirt and the neckband are upcycled. The body came from an old purple American Apparel shirt that’s super soft. The neckband came from a shirt Angela used in a tshirt quilt. The stars were from a tiny piece of fabric that I picked up in the remnant bin years ago.
The Recess Raglan came together incredibly fast. By using an existing hem from the shirt that I upcycled, I had very little actual sewing to do. In fact, I actually didn’t even pull out my sewing machine at all. This shirt was completely created on my serger.
I sewed up a size 5 for Raileigh and the fit is perfect. I absolutely love that the shirt is slightly longer than other shirts I’ve sewn up. It provides better coverage and will fit for longer.
Raileigh loves her new shirt just as much as I do. I know that there will be many, many more Recess Raglans in our future.
