Last weekend, we had the opportunity to host a very fun get-together at our house. We held a party to celebrate the release of the movie EPIC.
Just in case you haven’t heard of EPIC or don’t know what it’s about, here’s a brief synopsis:
From the creators of Ice Age comes the year’s funniest, most exhilarating animated adventure! Transported to a magical world, a teenager is recruited by a nature spirit, Queen Tara, to help the “Leafmen” save their existence – and ours – from evil warriors. The whole family will love this fast-paced thrill-ride, with its astonishing animation and an all-star voice cast.
Just to reiterate– the line-up of talent in this movie is EPIC in itself. You’ll hear:
- Colin Farrell as General Ronin
- Josh Hutcherson as Nod
- Amanda Seyfried as M.K.
- Christoph Waltz as Mandrake
- Aziz Ansari as Mub
- Chris O’Dowd as Grub
- Pitbull as Bufo
- Jason Sudeikis as Bomba
- Steven Tyler as Nim Galuu
- Beyonce Knowles as Queen Tara
So, we started off our party with some fun outdoor activities. It was crazy, ridiculous hot the day of our party, so our time outside didn’t last too long. The kids were sweating in two minutes flat. We hunted bugs and found some really cool ones to look at in our EPIC magnified bug jars. I think the favorite bug of the day was the roly poly. He was really active and everyone enjoyed watching him!
We also caught a grasshopper and even a few ants. Raileigh and her party guests even picked some grass and leaves to put in their bug jars… you know, just in case the bugs got hungry.
We took a snack break after bug catching and enjoyed some tasty treats that my little one picked out. We had juice boxes, yogurt tubes, strawberry chocolate chip cookies, and cupcake puppy chow. I had grand plans of having camping themed treats, but Raileigh’s vision was different. I went with her requests because the party was about her and her friends, and it didn’t really matter if everything was perfectly themed or not.
After filling our bellies, we headed inside to cool off and watch EPIC!
The movie isn’t actually out on Blu-Ray or DVD just yet, but we were able to stream it in DigitalHD.
I am not going to give away any of the movie because I really hate spoilers. Just know that it is incredible. All the adults and all the kids loved it. Seriously– every single one. It’s perfect for a family movie night because it engages everyone. We had guests from age 4 to teenagers all the way up through grandparents, and it was fun for all of them.
After movie time, we did one more activity before our guests headed home. We planted basil seeds! We had cute little EPIC cups, soil pods, and seeds to use. It was relatively messy, but oh so fun. It’s also a really good lesson in patience since seeds don’t sprout right away. It took exactly 6 days before we saw any green coming through the soil. But now, our basil is growing every day and I know it won’t be long before we can use some to cook with.
Our EPIC Party was truly an #EpicDay and a memorable one for everyone that came.
Remember, EPIC debuts on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow, so make sure to pick up your copy this Tuesday, August 20.
In the meantime, make sure to connect with EPIC across social media for even more fun leading up to the release:
