In a Dinner Slump? Try Old El Paso Dinner Kits {Review + Giveaway}

old-el-paso-fajita-dinner-kitWhen Darren and I were first married, I was far from adventurous in the kitchen.  We had about 5 meals we liked and those were on a regular rotation at dinner time.  The thing was that it didn’t take long for those five favorite meals to start tasting bland {I guess that’s what happens when you eat them over and over again…}.

As I began experimenting with different recipes and ingredients, I realized that I actually enjoyed cooking.  Previously, it was just something I did because I had to, but the more I tried new things and discovered amazing new meals, the more I began looking forward to spending time in my kitchen.

Now, we have a giant stockpile of recipes and meals that we truly love.  And– not a week goes by when I don’t try a new recipe and a new {to me} ingredient.  It’s kind of like an adventure to me.

But… as much as I love cooking and preparing meals for my family, there are those days when I don’t have the time, energy, or patience to create everything from scratch.  I’m also not the biggest fan of hitting up the closest drive-thru or getting take out.  So, I like to keep easy meals on hand that are tasty and that I can quickly prepare for my hungry family.

Enter Old El Paso and their extensive line of taco and fajita seasonings.  By combining their products with the fresh ingredients I always like to keep on hand, I am able to quickly throw together a tasty Mexican night that we all can enjoy.

I wanted to give you a sneak peek at one of our recent dinners, that just happens to feature Old El Paso.

We moved a little over a month ago, but we’re still settling in.  There are days when I just want to drop from complete exhaustion.  Unpacking has a way of doing that to you.  This often leads to me forgetting to take dinner out of our freezer or failing to pick up an ingredient at the store.  Yes… those things have definitely happened on multiple occasions in the past month…

However, those are the nights when I can simply reach for one of my Old El Paso Dinner Kits.  Over the years, we’ve used many of these from the Soft Taco Bake to the Enchilada Bake to the Hard & Soft taco Dinner Kit.  This time, we made fajitas.

The kit comes with all the basics– 10 soft tortillas, taco seasoning, and taco sauce.  You add meat, cheese, and toppings such as lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole.  The instructions are spelled out on the back of the box and are incredibly easy to follow.  If this sleep-deprived mama can follow them, then you’ll have no problems.

By using the kit, dinner is ready is less than half an hour.  Not too shabby.  Plus, not only is it quick, it is tasty.  Both my husband and I enjoyed the fajitas immensely and went back for seconds.  Okay– I’ll be honest.  There was actually none left at the end of dinner– they were that good.

Even if you like to cook from scratch like me, having these kits on hand can be a true dinner saver.  By pairing them with fresh things you keep on hand, you can prevent having to go out or eat a boring old PB&J.  Who knows– you might like them as much as we did and stick them right into your regular dinner rotation!
