#ShareTheSoft- Creating Memories with Kleenex and Vudu

One of the best parts of living where we do is that we have this amazing group of people to call friends.  I was never very good at making friends, and I am admittedly worse now that I am older.  However, I am fortunate to have a wonderful group of ladies that welcomed me into our circle of friends soon after we moved here.

We love to spend time together, but that just doesn’t happen as much as I would like.  Most of us are mothers, some have full-time jobs, and we are all incredibly busy.  So, last week I decided to try and put together a fun girls night for the weekend.

Not far into planning, I became severely disappointed.  It seems that we have an awful flu bug going around, and it’s hit almost every single one of my friend’s families.  For the lucky few that hadn’t caught it, they already had plans {a date night with the husband, plans with the family– you know, important stuff!}.

So, my big plans for a fun girls night in were quickly fading.  But I couldn’t let it go.  So, my daughter and I decided to have our own girls night- just she and I.

I added the first thing to our list– Kleenex Brand tissues.  With all the germs apparently going around, I wanted to have them on hand just in case one of us caught the sniffles!  Then, I asked Raileigh what she wanted to do at a girls night.  She told me four things:

  • Bake cookies.
  • Paint our fingernails and toenails.
  • Do a hard puzzle.
  • Watch a movie.

Well, that sounded like a pretty awesome girls night to me!  So, we headed out to Walmart get all the supplies we would need to make this night a success. {You can see our entire shopping trip over on Google+}

First stop– tissue aisle!  I wanted to get a multi-pack of Kleenex so we could put a box in multiple rooms of the house.  Then, a really cool thing happened.  I noticed that the 4-pack of tissues had a Vudu coupon included on the package!  We are Vudu users and I find this is such an easy way to enjoy a movie at a moments notice.  So, I went to the tissue aisle and was able to knock TWO things off my list at once.

We proceeded through the rest of our list, picking up the most glittery pink nail polish I have ever seen, two packages of cookie dough {because we couldn’t decide}, and a 500 piece puzzle featuring tigers that glows in the dark.

When we got back home, I opened up the Kleenex Brand Tissues and sent Raileigh on a mission to disperse them throughout the house, making sure to leave one in the living room where we’d have our girls night.  Then, I took the Vudu coupon and set out to redeem it for our movie of choice.

Now, just in case you’ve never used Vudu before, let me tell you a bit about it.  It’s a service where you pay by the movie, and stream them directly to your XBOX 360, Android Tablet, Blu-Ray Player, Roku, Playstation 3, iPad, computer, and more.  We actually use this awesome device called a MovieNight Plus from D-LINK.  You can choose to rent the movies, or for a slightly higher price, purchase a digital copy.

Vudu came installed on our device, and we were actually able to sign up on our television!  However, it’s really easy to sign up on their website.  Plus, I noticed that they are offering TEN free movies when you sign up right now.  Now, these are ten movies they selected for you, but I found the titles to be decent ones I would actually watch!

You’ll have the option to sign up using your Facebook account.  Personally, I love to do this because it’s so easy and saves me time.  However, if you don’t feel comfortable linking the two, just click to sign up without it.  Once I clicked to sign up with Facebook, I clicked one more time to tell Facebook that it was okay, and I was done.  Mere seconds.

From, here I can begin streaming movies to my computer, or set up other devices if I so desire.

I decided to go ahead and redeem my Vudu credit that came with my tissues.  To do this, head to Walmart.com/kleenex.  Click to redeem your code, and you’ll be redirected to the Vudu site where you simply enter the promo code found on the coupon from the Kleenex package.  Then, it’s time to choose your movie and enjoy!

I decided to rent Brave.  This is a movie that we saw at a drive-in theater the day it came out, and Raileigh has been talking about it ever since.  I knew she would love the opportunity to watch it once again.

But, before we began watching we decided to bake cookies.  After all, we needed a snack to munch on while watching!  Normally, I make cookies from scratch and actually really enjoy doing so.  However, I decided to go with the break-and-bake cookies for our girls night simply because it’s easy.  Raileigh chose the sugar cookies with hearts and a Mickey Mouse head.  I went with Valentine’s Day themed chocolate chip cookies.

I like to put cookies in for a few minutes less than it says because this leaves us with soft, chewy cookies that literally melt in your mouth.  We grabbed our freshly baked cookies, a glass of milk, and headed to the living room to continue our evening together.

During the movie, we ate cookies, painted our nails that lovely glittering pink, and got to work on our brand new puzzle.  We worked together on the puzzle for a while, but then got caught up in the movie.  So, we cuddled up together to watch the end of Brave together.

I was glad to have the box of Kleenex nearby.  Not because I was getting sick, but because this movie makes me cry.  Just in case you have not seen it, I won’t give too much away.  But, let’s just say that watching it alone with your daughter tends to make the waterworks flow even more than usual!  I tried to #ShareTheSoft with my little one, but of course she wasn’t crying like me!

This evening with my daughter was hands down one of the best times we have spent together.  We laughed, we smiled, we hugged, I cried.  It was divine.  As I tucked her in that evening, she immediately requested another girls night- for the very next day.

While we will have to wait a bit longer than that, these girls nights are here to stay in my house.  Every aspect was perfect– from the Kleenex and our free Vudu movie to baking cookies, painting nails, and starting a new puzzle.  This is definitely the beginning of a new tradition.
