Cirque Du Soleil – TOTEM {Review}

On December 13, Kevin and I had the incredible chance to see the Cirque Du Soleil show, Totem. We had such an amazing time. The 12th was Kevin’s birthday, so seeing this show was a great way to have an additional day of celebration for his birthday.

At the beginning of this month, I wrote a preliminary post about the Cirque Du Soleil show, Totem. You can find that at the link below:

Now that we have experienced the show, I want to go through a few of the different “acts” and give my feedback. Let me start by saying this, Kevin and I both have our “favorite” acts. However, there was not an act that we didn’t like! Each new set of characters brought a new thrill.

Bars (Carapace)
Growing up, I was a gymnast. I spent 11 years in competitive gymnastics. So naturally, I am drawn to anything that resembles gymnastics. THIS was one of my absolute favorite acts of the show. It was the first act and it was full of death defying tricks that had my eyes glued to the show.

Rings Trio
This act was really neat! Throughout the entire show, there was a guy who kept coming out and doing comedy. He was REALLY funny. At the beginning of this act, the guy came out in a speedo! It was hilarious! And then, once he got off stage the rings trio began. It is amazing what these three characters were able to do! They were SO strong! As I was watching it, it kept amazing me how they were able to swing back and forth across the entire Big Top while keeping their bodies stable.

Unicycles and Bowls
This was absolutely incredible. These 5 ladies came out on unicycles… with bowls balancing on their heads! From someone who has never been on a unicycle before, my first reaction was “They are going to fall off, I just know it!”. However, the show went just as planned (as I’m sure it always does), and none of these ladies fell off of their unicycle.

To me, the fact that they were able to ride on stage on a unicycle and stay in sync was incredible. But, there was so much more to this act. You see, each lady had a huge stack of bowls balancing on their heads. And not only did they balance these bowls…. they would put them on their FEET and TOSS them to one another — catching the bowls on their heads! This was Kevin’s favorite act — and it was absolutely incredible!

Kevin and I had a fantastic date night to Cirque Du Soleil’s TOTEM. Although we are super excited that we finally got to see a Cirque Du Soleil show… the level of thrill we got from this show made us REALLY wish that we had gotten to go on our honeymoon, too!

The next time that Cirque Du Soleil is in the Atlanta area — I am absolutely going to see it! It is a wonderful and breathtaking experience.
