DIY Gifting: Carseat Comfy

4:36 PM Posted by Rachael Weeshare

First let me say how sorry I am.  My ambitions got the better of me.  I thought I could finish all these posts by Christmas and clearly that didn't happen.  So welcome to a new (new) series called DIY Gifting.  Feel free to pin these for next Christmas or use them year round for birthday, I-love-you, baby shower, or I-just-felt-like-making-this-today gifts.  (Those are my favorite kind to give away!)

So, is it baby season or what? When I had my first son in 2006, I felt like everyone around me was having babies!! Later I came to find out that there was such a rise in births during that year, it's now referred to as the baby boomlet. Now that I've recently had my second, you can just call me a trend setter. Here we are again in the midst of a record breaking year of births. Unfortunately, buying the perfect gift for baby and mommy may not be as easy as it seems. You don't want to get him the same old onesie with a truck appliqué or her ANOTHER pink blanket! When my friend Kalee had her newest little chickadee, I wanted to give her something really unique. Since its her first, she has TONS of clothes from friends and family already. And since she's some what of a girly-girl, she already has a million blankets and burp cloths and who knows what else with fancy monograms and embroideries. I love making dresses even though I have no girls of my own and I would love to have made her one but sleeves are not my strong suit and it's December so that option was out. Then I saw this. I knew this had to be it. I bought a bunch of super cute girl flannel about a year ago on clearance at Joann knowing one of my pregnant friends would eventually produce a future wife for my little Bugs and I could not wait to try this tut out. Head on over to the site for full instructions, but here's a quick rundown of mine.

Jude didn't mind posing in the girly fabric... I'm sure he will one day when I pull out this photo for his girlfriend!

I was able to do this project in about two nap times, but I'm easily distracted and will admit that I did not devote all my attention at once. Also, like I said, I already had this fabric on hand and I always have batting laying around. But in a warmer temperature, plenty of other fabrics would do just fine.

Disclaimer: Making stuff from other people's tuts and free patterns is fun! Selling it is not. If you want to sell a product from a free pattern or tut, always check with the original author first so she can get recognition for all her hard work!
