Win a Pair of Tickets to Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at Atlanta Botanical Gardens!
This year marks the return on Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. This walk-through lights display debuted for the very first time in 2011. Many Atlanta families came out to enjoy a stroll through one of the most breathtaking holiday displays that the city has to offer.
Starting November 15, you can once again take in the lights at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Garden Lights, Holiday Nights uses over 1.5 million energy-efficient bulbs to create the twinkling paradise. You will find botanical-inspired light displays all throughout the 30 acres that make up Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
Here are some fun facts about this unique lights display:
- Last year, 1,120 gallons of milk were used to make hot chocolate for guests at Garden Lights, Holiday Nights.
- More than 16 million colors of lights can be timed to the musical soundtrack for the Great Lawn’s Orchestral Orbs show.
- There are more than 550,000 feet, or 104 miles, of light strings within the display -- about the distance from Atlanta to Chattanooga TN .
- Displays are created with more than 18,000 strings of LED lights with 50 bulbs, or “chips,” per string.
- More than 3,000 square feet of storage space is required to house the light displays in the off-season.
- 110,000 visitors attended Garden Lights, Holiday Nights last year-- more than the entire population of Athens, GA.
- More than 98 percent of the lights use energy-saving bulbs.
There are some new features at Garden Lights, Holiday Nights this year that I wanted to share with you.
- ·The show’s live mascot Lumina – a magical, fairylike light sprite born of the white winter flower, created in partnership with Serenbe Playhouse – will wave her magic wand nightly from 5-8pm, greeting guests (and creating a great family photo opp!). This costume is being created by local designer Tian Justman.
- The launch of Glow Bar (nightly beginning at 8pm), will offer a festive area for libations and fun (for the 21+ set).
- New lighting displays: Cascades Garden casts a spectacular icy cool vibe; Liquid Lights display featuring blue and white lighted fountain sprays and water curtains; and the “Starry Night Walk,” inspired by Van Gogh’s famous painting, sparkles with dozens of swirling stars twinkling along a camellia-lined walkway.
- Illuminated “frelves” (frog elves) will be positioned throughout the garden, adding a festive touch.
Garden Lights, Holiday Nights runs November 17, 2012- January 5, 2013. Visitors are admitted from 5pm- 10pm nightly. You can save money on tickets by becoming a member of Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
Now for the exciting news. One very lucky Wee Share reader is going to WIN a pair of tickets to take in Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at Atlanta Botanical Gardens!
