Sew Some Happy– Sewing Patterns from LilyGiggle {Review + Giveaway}

It’s no secret– I love to sew!  However, my favorite fabric cannot be found on the shelves at Joann’s or any other craft store for that matter.  My favorite places to shop for “fabric” are thrift shops and my very own closet.  That is because I absolutely love to upcycle knits.  There is just something about taking old t-shirts and turning them into something perfect for my daughter to wear that I absolutely love.

Recently, I became acquainted with an absolutely awesome pattern company– LilyGiggle.  Not only are the patterns stunning, but many have been created from rescued clothing!  Upcycling old garments into new is at the heart of many LilyGiggle patterns.  From the moment I was first introduced to LilyGiggle, I was smitten.

Now, I have had the opportunity to test out a LilyGiggle pattern and I cannot wait to tell you all about it.  But first, I want you to get to know Beth.  She’s the wonderful mom, wife, and seamstress who is behind LilyGiggle.  I think you’re going to love her as much as I do!

Your name and shop name:  Beth Gaffney/LilyGiggle

What do you love most about creating patterns?  Designing…I do it in my sleep! My mind is always making patterns. I can hardly have a conversation with someone without trying to figure out the construction of their clothing while we are talking…let alone walk through clothing departments without checking out all the detailing on any garment that catches my eye. So I guess I would have to say the challenge of making it work. My absolute favorite moment is when I put the finishing touches on a sample that had once just been an idea in my head and realizing that I got it just right.

What is your favorite pattern that you have made? Oh my, that is a hard one since I have an attachment to each one. As simple as they are, though, right now I am particularly fond of the Petunia Petal Pants. I would say that they have more “blood, sweat and tears” than any other pattern as I was obsessed with getting a great fit. I also struggled with exactly how to get the flounce just the way I wanted it and, seriously, woke up in the middle of the night with the solution. I jumped out of bed and wrote it down so that I wouldn’t forget it by morning. So, yes, I literally design in my sleep!

Outside of sewing, what do you enjoy doing?  Being with my kids. I’ve got 4 of them and could not be more thankful for my crazy houseful of children. My husband and I struggled with secondary infertility for 7 years so I am one blessed mama to have all these little peeps, now, and enjoy them 100 percent…okay…well, 90%…we are potty training right now….haha. As far as hobbies go, I love all things crafty and/or artsy. I love drawing, painting and even have a background in silversmithing. I really enjoy living in the mountains and spending time outside in some of the most gorgeous surroundings in the world. We do a lot of hiking around here.

What are five words that describe you well? Quiet, Curious, Hard-Working, Creative & a bit Absent-Minded…yes…I embarrass myself daily.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?  Another tough one to narrow down. There are so many things that I would like to see or do in my lifetime that I still haven’t but a summer in an Irish cottage by the sea would fit my mood right now.

What is your favorite dessert?  A local bakery/chocolatier makes the hands down best almond macaroons that are worth waiting in line out the door for. They are my current dessert favorite but I have to say I am a sucker for a good ol’ chocolate chip cookie, too. If they are around I lose all power against them. The cookie always wins.

Tell us about your family.  As I said, I have 4 children…2 boys and 2 girls. My oldest son is a teenager, now, and my youngest daughter is only 2. My husband is my college sweetheart and we’ve been together for a very long time. He’s still my best friend…as cliché as that may sound it is the truth. We both have home based businesses and we home school our brood so the Gaffney family spends a lot of time together and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Not a lifestyle for everyone but one that works for us.

Isn’t she great?  Just wait until you see the patterns!

The first LilyGiggle pattern I decided to make was the Rings of Ruffles Pants.  These awesome pants have so many options for variation, including a full or cropped length.  You can also go with no ruffles or layer them on!

Since it is still warm here (unfortunately!) I decided to go with the cropped pant length.  The Rings of Ruffles Pants is a slim yoga-style fit, so I knew that they could be used alone or as leggings under a dress or skirt.

The pattern came together effortlessly.  The directions are crystal clear with a plethora of pictures included along the way.  I never questioned what to do or how I should be doing something.  However, it is nice to know that Beth is just an email away if you do happen to get stuck.

I also only added one ruffle.  However, Raileigh has requested that her next pair have many, many more.  Yes– there will definitely be lots more Rings of Ruffles Pants in our household.  They are soft, comfortable, fit impeccably well, and feature lots of girly goodness.  What more could you want?

Needless to say, I am anxious to check out more LilyGiggle patterns in the very near future.  Want to know which patterns are on my “to sew ASAP” list?

I am sure that by know you all are anxious to try out these amazing patterns, too.  Well…. Beth has very generously offered to send one lucky Wee Share reader a FIVE pack of her PDF patterns from LilyGiggle— you choose which ones!
