Just a few weeks ago, Darren and I found out that his job would be relocating to Charleston, SC. While we are both thrilled to be moving to an area we love, we are trying to find time to spend with friends and family before officially moving 5 hours from our current residence.
This past weekend, we were fortunate to host a playdate in conjunction with Kmart Playdate Place. It was the perfect opportunity to have some fun and see some close friends and family before heading to the Palmetto State.
I used the Kmart Playdate Place website to plan our playdate. Using their helpful tips and suggestions, I decided on an appropriate time, date, and location for our playdate. I went with a weekend afternoon outdoor playdate at my house.
I also used the Kmart Playdate Place website to find ideas for exciting and engaging toys to offer at our playdate. We ordered our selected toys on the Kmart website and decided to use the in-store pick-up option. This allowed us to keep from paying shipping on our order. Plus, everything was ready for pick-up in just one short day!
Raileigh was beyond thrilled when we arrived at our local Kmart store to pick up the new playthings. The store pick-up location was located in the rear of the store at the layaway counter. It didn’t take long for the order to be processed, so we were quickly on our way. We actually had to bring my mom along to help us carry the toys home. The largest of the toys didn’t come close to fitting in our car!
Our playdate day finally arrived, and we were all thrilled to try out some new toys and have a good time. The fun started outside with the star of the day- Fisher-Price Power Wheels Lightning McQueen. Raileigh had ridden in the new car quite often prior to the playdate. So, I was a bit concerned that she wasn’t going to do a good job sharing him with her friends. I was very proud of her, though. She did a fantastic job taking turns and showing the other children how he worked.
It didn’t take long for the Georgia heat to start getting to everyone. We decided to take a break and cool off with a healthy summer treat that Raileigh and I had prepared for everyone– fresh fruit popsicles! Stay tuned later this week and we will show you how to make them!
By this time, the mosquitoes had came out in fill force as well. No amount of bug spray could keep them away. So, the party headed indoors. The fun was just beginning! We got out the new Little Tikes Get Out ‘N’ Grill Backyard Barbecue, and the children had a great time “cooking” hamburgers and hotdogs for us to eat!
We also practiced skating indoors with the Fisher-Price Grow With Me 1,2,3 Roller Skates. Since most of the children had no experience skating, the softer surfaces indoors were actually an ideal place for them to learn. Many of the little ones resembled Bambi, with their shaky legs flailing as they attempted to learn how to use the skates. Falls were plentiful, but everyone had a wonderful time learning to get around on wheels.
I had Monopoly Disney Pixar Cars 2 Edition out for the older kids and adults. However, we enjoyed watching the younger kids so much, that we never actually played a game!
Our playdate was a blast and actually lasted quite a bit longer than originally expected! Having an assortment of toys geared at the ages of the children in attendance was key. There was truly something for everyone! I was glad to have toys that easily transitioned between indoor and outdoor play since the heat was definitely an issue.
Thanks to Kmart Playdate Place, planning every last detail of our playdate was a breeze. I look forward to many future playdate with new friends in South Carolina!
