Our Thoughts

Growing up, both Darren and I thoroughly enjoyed the Berenstain Bears. Fortunately, both of our mothers saved our collection of Berenstain Bears books and now we are able to share them with Raileigh. Recently, Raileigh has shown a very big love of reading and being read to. When it comes to books, her attention span is almost never ending. So, we have began to share the Berenstain Bears stories with her.

Since Darren and I were the age when these books appealed to us, many new titles and formats of the stories have been released. The Berenstain Bears Do Their Best is a title neither of us were familiar with before checking out this new eBook from Oceanhouse Media. However, I suspected that since it was a Berenstain Bears story, we would not be disappointed!

There are three ways in which to enjoy this digital book:

• "Read to Me" — listen to the narrated story with words highlighted as they are read
• "Read it Myself" — read the book in its traditional form
• "Auto Play" — plays like a movie, automatically reading and turning pages. Great for younger children!

We have most used this book when in the car. For that, the auto play format works great. I can start the story, hand the iPhone to Raileigh, and she sits back and enjoys as a story is read to her. There are many things I like about the auto play feature. The narrator reads very clearly and at a pace that is easy to follow. Berenstain Bears books often rhyme, and the narrator emphasizes this well. I feel that this provides a great introduction to rhyming for Raileigh and will really help to make it easier for her to learn this skill.

As each page "turns" on auto play, there is an accompanying page turn noise. I love that it makes the digital book feel even more like a real book by doing this. Additionally, there are background noises that can be heard while the text is being read, which really adds to the overall feel of the story.
