2010 Ultimate Gift Guide Review & Giveaway: Rokenbok- CLOSED

4:13 PM Posted by Desi @ Wee Share

From an early age, Raileigh has loved to build things. We have introduced her to several types of blocks in hopes of encouraging and promoting this interest. Recently, I learned about a company called Rokenbok. Rokenbok creates a unique style of blocks that are unlike any I have seen before.

Rokenbok has actually been around since 1995 and was founded by Paul Eichen. Rokenbok blocks are unique for several reasons. For starters, they can be purchased as sets in various play levels:

  • Preschool (Ages 3+)
  • Preschool Remote Control (Ages 3+)
  • Full Featured (Ages 6+)
  • Advanced (Ages 9+)
What I like is that the pieces from each set are compatible with the pieces from every other set. Meaning, you can buy your child the Preschool set, and when they are ready for Full Featured, all of the old pieces will work with the new pieces in the Full Featured set. With blocks that Raileigh has used in the past, I have found this is not true. So, when she outgrows one stage of blocks, we have to start all over building her block set up again.

I also like that the Rokenbok blocks help to spark Raileigh's creativity and bring any idea she has in her head to life. You see, Rokenbok allows children to create completely functional 3D models. You can make cars trucks, planes, and more!

We were actually given the opportunity to test out the Rokenbok Preschool Blocks. Here is a little information about this specific set, straight from the Rokenbok website.

Young children's hands are not very strong or well coordinated, so a really good interlocking block has to be self aligning. Get two ROK Blocks even close together, and their funny shaped cones guide them into alignment. A little squeeze, and the blocks snap together. A stacking block won’t hold a child’s attention for long if they can’t make something fun to play with. ROK Blocks are made in a unique, patent pending way that allows them to stack both up and out in three dimensions. They assemble in thousands more combinations than traditional blocks. This makes it easy to build fun models like trucks, cars, houses, planes and helicopters. ROK Blocks are compatible with all other Rokenbok sets and can be used in your child’s most advanced Rokenbok creation ten years from now.

We were thrilled when our ROK Blocks set arrived. The set is packed with 45 various pieces to get every young builder going. Immediately upon opening the box, I began to see just how different Robenbok Blocks really are!

You see, unlike most Preschool blocks that just stack up, Rokenbok blocks can stack up and outward. That is because the unique design of the blocks allows new blocks to be snapped onto all four sides. This allows the unique 3rd dimension that other blocks truly do not have.

My husband and I have both enjoyed exploring new building ideas with Raileigh. I have seen that once we build something, it actually stays together long enough for Raileigh to play with it! That is because the unique way the blocks snap together creates a much sturdier. Raileigh is also perfectly content just snapping blocks together and taking them apart, so at times she will just sit and do this as well!

I am so glad that we were introduced to Rokenbok when Raileigh was young. This means that we will have many years of opportunity to add onto her existing play set. For now, though, we are just enjoying thinking of new things to make with our Rokenbok Preschool Blocks.

Does Rokenbok sound like something that your little ones would enjoy as well? Rokenbok has generously offered to give one lucky Wee Share reader a ROK Blocks Preschool set like we received!

I work in full day play based kindergarten program and the Rokenbok really appeal to me because the children can build and create their "own" ideas. I also like that you can have buildings and machines that really work! Overall a great early learning toy and adventure!
