I just love granola. It's a healthy snack that I think tastes delicious! I especially love when granola is combined with one of my absolute favorite things- chocolate! The one drawback is that the delectable sweet can often make granola a not-so-healthy snacking option.
I was pleased when I recently found a granola company called Granola Gourmet. Granola Gourmet was started by a man named Jeff Cohen and his family. Jeff suffers from diabetes and was less than thrilled with the tasty snacks available for diabetics. Most snacks cause a sugar spike, and those that don't just don't offer a lot of flavor. So, Jeff took matters into his own hands and created Granola Gourmet.
The great news is that what started as a diabetic family satisfying their sweet tooth from their own kitchen, Granola Gourmet was able to grow into a much larger, successful company. Diabetics and non-diabetics alike are able to benefit from the 100% natural and wholesome energy bars. These yummy treats can satisfy your hunger and your sweet tooth in one delectable treat. The ingredients used are very low on the Glycemic Index. This means that the Granola Gourmet bars convert to sugar more slowly, thus eliminating the sugar spike. I had no idea why sugar spikes were really that bad, so I turned to Granola Gourmet for that answer. Weight loss is impossible if you are hungry. Blood sugar spikes trigger your body to produce extra insulin. This extra insulin causes you to become hungry.
Additionally, Granola Gourmet bars contain 4.5 to 6 grams of fat per bar. The majority of these fats are omega 3 fatty acids, aka the healthy fats. The other fats come from things such as flax seeds, almonds, and olive oil. All Granola Gourmet bars have no dairy and no wheat (they are made form oats).
So, I am sure you are wondering if something this healthy really can taste good. Well, I was able to put two of the Granola Gourmet flavors to the test, and I am happy to report that they both taste delicious! Here is a closer look at the two flavors I tried.
BrownieWarm them in the microwave for a few seconds and they taste gooey and chocolatey like they are right out of the oven.
Product Ingredients: Organic Oats, Organic Blue Agave, Chocolate Chips (evaporated cane juice, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter), Honey, Organic Sunflower Seeds, Organic Flaxseeds, Almonds, Olive Oil, Natural Vanilla Extract, Cocoa Powder
I was very excited to try these bars. I love brownies, but as you can imagine, they aren't too good for you. I tried the first bar without microwaving and my first thought was "YUM! Chocolate!". The bars were super chocolatey and quite delicious. I almost forgot they were healthy! The texture was quite dense- more dense than granola bars I have tried in the past. However, I found that I actually really liked the texture. The second bar went straight to the microwave and boy was it great! The added warmth softened it up a bit and really made the chocolate flavor that much more intense. I had to stop after the second and save the rest for our camping trip. I knew that the slowly released sugars would be a perfect pick-me-up as we explored in the heat. The brownie energy bars are definitely a great energy bar to munch on when you need that boost of energy! This was by far one of the most delicious healthy foods I have ever tried.

I am not a fan of anything coffee, mocha, espresso, etc. flavored. So, even though this energy bar contained chocolate, I had to wonder just how much I would like it. I was quite surprised to find that I really liked this bar- perhaps even more than the Brownie. I think it was the chocolate chips that did it for me. Every bar had so many chocolate chips and they were downright yummy! I know these were for the camping trip, but I had to give them a try before we left as well. Again, I really loved the effect the microwave had on the bars. Absolute deliciousness! I do have to say that the hot sun can have the exact same effect, though. What a great energy bar!In addition to the two chocolatey bars offered by Granola Gourmet, they offer two other flavors as well- Very Berry and Spiced Orange Cranberry. I am usually not a big fan of fruity granola, but I have to say that looking at both of these makes my mouth water. After seeing just how much I enjoyed the two flavors that I tried, I just may have to give the other two a test run as well!
Granola Gourmet is quickly becoming known as the "Bars of the Stars". the ABC show Pushing Daisies began purchasing Granola Gourmet bars for their cast and crew. News of the delicious bars spread quickly, and it wasn't long before other shows were following suit. Check out some of the other hit shows that now serve Granola Gourmet!
