Have you ever stopped and thought about just how many ziploc baggies your family uses? I encourage you to think about this. I am certain you will be astounded at the amount of little plastic bags that your family throws away every day. They may be small, but they add up very quickly. One thing that you can do to reduce the number of plastic baggies you are using is to introduce reusable snack and sandwich bags into your home. You will find an incredible selection of them at It's a Ten Specialty Creations.
Tami is the incredibly sweet lady behind this wonderful etsy shop. This talented mother stocks her shop with an assortment of beautiful fabric crafts. But, before I tell you about the creative things Tami makes, let's get to know her a little better. I am pleased to introduce Tami of It's a Ten Specialty Creations!
Name and Location: Tami Nicholson, Its A Ten Specialty Creations, Arizona
Where did you get your etsy shop name, It's a Ten Specialty Creations, from? Well, I decided that I wanted to play off the initials to my name, Tami Elaine Nicholson (TEN) so my husband and I came up with the name since everything that would be in my shop was something that I sewed or made.
What inspired you to open your etsy shop? Actually, my friends kept telling me that I needed to start selling my stuff and I knew I didn't want the expense of designing and keeping up my own website so that led me to etsy. I had a friend who had an etsy shop but I had never used it before so I thought I'd check it out and here I am.
Apart from creating things, what do you like to do? I enjoy exercising and keeping fit...another side business I have as well as spending time with my family. I also have a thing for reality TV...I know guilty pleasure.
Is there any craft you don’t know how to do but wish you did? Hmmm, I once thought I wanted to learn to knit until a friend of mine showed me how long it takes. But for now...I really wish I knew more about my embroidery machine. I've had it for 4 years and haven't had the time to teach myself how to do it.
Where would you most like to travel to and why? I would love to travel to New Zealand and Australia. My husband was born in New Zealand and one day we will go there.
What is your favorite dessert? Mint chocolate chip ice cream
If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would you choose? My biological mother died when I was only 3 years old...(the age of my youngest daughter) so even though my dad remarried and I was raised with a "mom", I would love to known my biological mom.
What is your greatest accomplishment is life this far? I am very proud of our family...I have a great husband who has made lots of sacrifices for our family and we have two healthy, happy little girls. This answer would've been completely different 4 years ago before I left corporate America and became a stay at home mom :)
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? That's a tough question...one that used to be easy for me to answer before I had kids. But I'll be a mom to two teenage girls if that tells you anything.
Anyone or anything else you’d like to tell us about? As a child I grew up the youngest of 6 kids. I was the one that would always be helping my mom with stuff...including sewing. For many years she made our whole families clothes, pants, shirts, jeans, bathing suites...you name it, and I was right beside her, cutting out patterns, pressing the seams and whatever else a kid could do. I honestly didn't LOVE it at the time. It wasn't until I became an adult that I became thankful for everything my mom taught me about the craft of sewing and now I love it. But quite frankly, I still have a hard time making my girls lots of clothes... not because I can't...because the few pieces I have made have gotten lots of compliments but I just remember being the girl in junior high and freshman year in high school wearing the homemade clothes!!
After drooling over the fabulous fabrics that Tami creates all of her reusable bags from, I decided that I had to contact her to see if she was interested in doing a feature here at Wee Share. Tami responded that she was indeed interested. With the busyness of the holidays and her family in the middle of moving, it took us a little time to get everything coordinated. I was thrilled, however, when the New Year arrived, along with our gorgeous snack bag from Tami.
I could not wait to see which fabric Tami had used to create our bag. The moment I saw it, I loved it. Brown, the main color of our snack bag, is one of my favorite colors. I especially love when it is paired with a beautiful contrasting color. So, the blue in the bag made me love it even more! The inner lining is a white ripstop nylon.
I could tell instantly that the bag was incredibly well made. The seams were immaculate and the stitching was incredibly straight. The velcro is sewn to the inside of the bag for an easy to open, yet very secure closure. The nylon interior is water resistant, not waterproof. At 4" x 7 1/2", the snack saver reusable bags are perfect for apple slices, crackers, and other portable foods.
I could not wait to give our new snack saver bag a test run. I filled it with some cinnamon graham goldfish for a trip to the fabric store. I know how long I tend to take at the fabric store, so it is essential to take plenty of snacks for Raileigh. Tami's reusable bag was perfect for Raileigh to use. She sat in the buggie, gripping the bag in one hand. The other hand was shoveling in the little fish treats. When she finsihed snacking, I just closed the bag and tossed it back in the diaper bag. It's very easy to use.
We have used our snack saver bag so much since it arrived. The bag has gone to the grocery store, IKEA, and on rides in the car. Because it is so easy to clean, I have it available to use all the time. To clean the interior nylon, simply turn the bag inside out and wipe clean. If the exterior fabric gets dirty, just toss it in the washing machine. No special care required.
In addition to the snack saver baggies, Tami has some other great products listed in her shop. She also sells the reusable bags in sandwich size. Her crayon and marker rolls are perfect to take on the go as entertainment for your child. Additionally, I love her fabric coasters. Raileigh thinks our ceramic ones make great frisbees, so fabric ones would be well loved in our home. Here is a small sampling of other items that Tami has listed in her shop.
