Review & Giveaway: Flower Girl Designs- CLOSED

7:56 PM Posted by Desi @ Wee Share

One of my goals in 2010 is to be more organized. I have started by purging a lot of the things that I no longer have a use for. Now, I have to find a spot for everything that is left! One of the first areas I have started to organize is Raileigh's room. When she was younger, there were far less toys and it was much easier to find a home for everything. Now, she has more toys with more parts and it's much harder to put everything away. So, I went in search of something that I could make to bring a little more order to her room. I found a lot of great patterns for all sorts of organizational tools at Flower Girl Designs.

Dorinda is the wonderful lady behind Flower Girl Designs. Luckily, this talented lady didn't keep her creativity all to herself! She has created a plethora of amazing patterns that will add beauty and organization to your home. But, before I tell you all about Dorinda's wonderful patterns, let's get to know her a bit better! I am pleased to introduce Dorinda of Flower Girl Designs!

Name and Location: Dorinda Dombrowski, Escanaba, Michigan

Where did you get your etsy shop name, Flower Girl Designs, from? I really don’t remember, I just like the name.

What inspired you to open your etsy shop? I have a love of sewing and creating, so I decided to share my ideas.

Apart from creating things, what do you like to do? I love my animals and spending time with them. Also, I’m looking forward to Spring and planting a garden.

Is there any craft you don’t know how to do but wish you did? I would love to learn how to knit.

If you could meet anyone from the past or present, who would you choose and why? I would like to meet Martha Stewart, I love watching her show. She is so crafty and loves to garden, I know I could learn a lot.

Where is your favorite movie? I don’t watch many movies or T.V., I guess, I don’t have a favorite movie. But, my favorite show and actress is Lucy from I Love Lucy!

What is your greatest accomplishment is life this far? That would be my sewing business, I have meet many people from all over the world, through the Internet.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? To have at least 100 patterns for sale.

Out of all of the patterns Dorinda has created, the one that caught my eye was the storage bags pattern. I imagined creating these to hold all of the small toys in Raileigh's room. Then, I could just envision them popping up all over my house to hold various things! After I finished brainstorming all of the uses for the fabric storage bags, I contacted Dorinda to see if she was interested in having the pattern featured on Wee Share. I was thrilled when Dorinda responded that she was indeed interested!

In a very short time, the storage bag pattern was awaiting me in my email. As with all patterns, I took the time to read through it before cutting any fabric. I have wasted valuable fabric by not doing this before, so I highly recommend not skipping the read through. Next, I used Dorinda's measurements and some freezer paper to create my pattern pieces. Creating pattern pieces that can be used again and again is a bit time consuming the first time, but every time after that will go a lot faster.

After I had used my pattern pieces to cut out all of my fabric, it was finally time to start sewing. This pattern calls for Craft Fuse, which I have really never used before. The fusible webbing I bought was not actually Craft Fuse. What I bought was really too thick and not very fun at all to work with. I had a difficult time getting my fabric to actually stick to the fusible webbing when I ironed it. All I can say is that I definitely learned which fusible webbing NOT to buy, and that I will definitely go with actual Craft Fuse in the future!

Following along with Dorinda's pattern was very easy. Every step contains a visual illustration of the direction. Plus, Dorinda uses wording that is very easy to follow and understand, It was comforting to know, however, that Dorinda was just an email away if I did get stuck. The storage bags can be created with or without an exterior pocket. For my first bag, I chose not to have a pocket. That meant that I got to skip several steps, which is always rather exciting!

Before I knew it, my bag was complete! The final product is absolutely wonderful. I read the measurements of the finished product, but upon seeing it in person, it was bigger than I had pictured. This was just fine by me! I already had something in mind for this first fabric storage bag- a holder for all of Raileigh's little people figurines. They are taking over and really needed to be contained. The storage bag is perfect because it holds them all, with plenty of room for more (yeah!). Plus, it has no sharp corners or edges it Raileigh happens to fall on it.

After seeing how much this simple bag did to organize Raileigh's Little People, I have decided I need about a zillion more. I need one for all of my fabric remnants, one to hold Raileigh's washcloths in the bathroom, one to contain all of her bibs... and the list could go on and on! I also see several more patterns in Dorinda's shop that I would love to try including the reversible market bag, the child's pocket placemats, and the gift bags with bows.

I am incredibly excited to tell you that Dorinda has agreed to do a giveaway here at Wee Share! One lucky reader is going on a shopping spree at Flower Girl Designs! Dorinda has generously agreed to let the winner have $25 to spend in her shop! Thank you, Dorinda, for such a generous giveaway!

I like the storage bags, too. I would make mine with the pockets, and maybe add some type of handles?
They would be cute in the playroom, and I also need somewhere to store my knitting!

HI! I've already bought two patterns from Dorinda - and w/the $25, I would add to my collection the bucket organizer, the car organizer & storage bags for starters :). And perhaps the picnic set. I recently made two of her Tote-n-Gos - and she's posted my pics to her blog!

BTW, my son's name is Ranleigh :) I couldn't help but smile at your daughter's name!!
