Tomorrow, my husband and I will celebrate 5 wonderful years of marriage. I began dating Darren on October 25, 1998, when I was just 15 years old. I knew pretty quickly that he was the man I wanted to marry one day. Throughout our 5 years of marriage, we have seen a variety of ups and downs. Each and every one have made us stronger and closer. I wanted to take a moment to remember some of those times.
The birth of our beautiful and amazing daughter, Raileigh Jahzmyne. After 41 weeks of pregnancy and 2 days of being induced, I delivered a healthy and amazing baby girl via c-section at 12:38 pm September 11. 2008
Darren shattered his collarbone at work the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2005. He had surgery December 12 and spent our first anniversary feeling pretty miserable.
The loss of some very special people in our lives. Grandma Hilda (Darren’s grandmother on his mom’s side) in October 2005, Pastor Colbaugh (Our longtime pastor that preformed our wedding ceremony) just before Raileigh was born in 2008, Granddaddy (Dareen’s grandfather on his father’s side) in June 2009
Our big move away from home. We left Georgia in April 2007 to start a new life in Summerville, SC (just outside of Charleston). The birth of our daughter brought us back home to all of our family in January 2009
I graduated college! I received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Georgia State University in 2006. I graduated cum laude.
All of the late nights we spent working at the Gwinnett Arena. I never dreamed we’d see all the many performers we have seen… Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Kid Rock, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Mathews Band, Journey, Stevie Nicks, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Blue Man Group, ZZ Top, Mannheim Steamroller, Queen, Kayne West, Lynard Skynard, Hank Williams Jr., and on and on and on…
Our numerous amounts of car accidents- the man pulling out in front of me on the way home from the dealership, hitting the deer in our neighborhood, me getting hit from behind at 60 mph while sitting dead stopped, totaling our car when we were 2 hours from home… that list could go on, too
Spending our first week together as husband and wife at DisneyWorld. What an amazing and magical week we had, riding rides, eating so many romantic and special dinners, and celebrating the rest of our lives
Going on dates to physical therapy while Darren worked to heal his collarbone and I worked to heal my knee
Darren biked 6 miles each way to work every day by choice for a year when we lived in South Carolina. He did it in rain, cold, 120 degree heat- everything. He was in great shape and loved his commute.
Those are just a few of the highlights. I can picture so many little special moments that would take me a lifetime to list. I can say that I am a very blessed person. I know without a shadow of a doubt that God put Darren into my live and intertwined us as part of his plan for our lives. He gave us the gift of sharing a child. Not just any child, but the most amazing little girl he’s ever created. I am looking towards the future any many, many years with my best friend.
