Creative Mamas Monday!

Sadly, I missed doing Creative Mamas Monday last week. The busyness of life just caught up with me. I am coming back this week with 3 exciting new projects. Of course, that doesn’t even make a dent in the things I wanted to finish before Christmas.

The first project I finished was a Christmas cupcake dress. I first learned how to shirr using a tutorial at the Martha Stewart website. After making many dresses and trying lots of different techniques, I finally decided on my favorite way of making a shirred dress. I took things I learned from various places and used all my favorite techniques to come up with it. Of course, I am sure that it is something I will continue to tweak as I continue to make dresses.

The second thing I made I used a tutorial for. I saw this adorable little reindeer shirt at monkeys on the bed. I was very excited because the shirt had been created for tutorial Tuesday, so a great how-to was included! I found an adorable red and silver striped shirt on sale at Wal-Mart for $3.50 and knew that it would be the perfect reindeer shirt. Mine isn’t exactly like the one in the tutorial. I changed the colors a bit and used buttons for eyes. Basically, that’s just what I had on hand. I am so thrilled with how it turned out. I want to make more shirts for Raileigh using her feet and hands. It just adds such a special touch to it!

The third thing I created isn’t actually Christmas related. In fact, I started it several months ago. I made the appliques and attached them to the shirt with full intention of sewing around the edges of everything to secure it. I never got around to that, though, so the shirt has just been sitting there. This morning, I decided to finally finish it. I was being lazy and didn’t change out the white bobbin. I am glad I didn’t, though, because I love the effect it created. In each spot my needle entered the black fabric, there is a tiny white dot. I think I like it even better than if I had used black bobbin.

I have several half finished projects that have to be done by Christmas, so I should have lots to show you next week. I hope all you creative mamas have a Merry Christmas!

How precious…the clothes too! I miss making cutie clothes for my kids who are all mostly grown now.

And I agree, the elephant applique looks great with the contrasting stitching!
